Gippsland Multicultural Services (GMS) is one of many Organisations who is funded by the Australian Government to auspice the program providing companionship to Cultural & Linguistically Diverse (CALD) senior citizens who are isolated living in Government subsidized Aged Care Homes.

What is involved in volunteering?

Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) offers friendship, social opportunities and a connection to the community for cultural and linguistically diverse (CALD) senior citizens.

Our volunteers are committed to developing and sustaining a friendship over a period of time, and we ensure you have a genuine interest in helping the senior citizens stay socially involved and connected to their communities.

We recruit volunteers who enjoy the company of older people, have time to commit to at least one visit a fortnight, are good communicators and feel this experience will enrich their lives.

What does a community visitor do?

  • Read a book
  • Share a hobby, interest or activity
  • have a chat over a cuppa
  • Take a walk
  • Enjoy a TV show together

How do I volunteer?

Our CVS volunteers are diverse, some have had experience working with senior citizens and others have not. Talk to our Coordinator about receiving an Application form or to have a confidential chat.  You will receive forms to complete including National Criminal History Record Check which will be undertaken by GMS.  Once approved, you will be matched with a resident and introduced.
